Assistant Chemist

Uses analytical skills in performing specialized lab tests. In the absence of the other lab personnel, including the Factory Chemist, this position ensures required lab tests are perform and results recorded. May perform tests and record results. Responsible for the day to day operation of the lab and maintain all laboratory records. Prepares and standardizes solutions. Responsibility for sugar and by-product analysis. Uses knowledge of chemistry and factory processes to assist other areas in troubleshooting. Performs routine lab maintenance, including troubleshooting and basic repair and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Monitors sanitation activities and performs sanitation inspections as needed, in conjunction with the Factory Chemist. Performs basic first aid and CPR if required. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for physical inventories of sugar, molasses and pellets, molasses balance, extraction and production accounting
