Job Description

The American Red Cross is seeking a dedicated and skilled Disaster Program Manager to join our team and lead our disaster response efforts. As the Disaster Program Manager, you will play a crucial role in preparing for and responding to disasters, coordinating volunteers and resources, and providing critical support to those affected. We are looking for a strong communicator and problem solver, with a proven track record of managing complex situations and driving results.   1. Develop and implement disaster response plans for the local community, in alignment with the national disaster management strategy.
  2. Lead and manage a team of volunteers and staff, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient and effective disaster response efforts.
  3. Establish and maintain relationships with local government agencies and community organizations to coordinate resources and support for disaster response.
  4. Monitor and assess potential risks and vulnerabilities in the community, and develop strategies to mitigate and respond to them.
  5. Plan and execute trainings and exercises for volunteers and staff, ensuring they are prepared to respond to disasters.
  6. Serve as the primary point of contact for disaster response operations, providing timely and accurate information to all stakeholders.
  7. Collaborate with other departments and organizations to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response to disasters.
  8. Manage and allocate resources, including supplies and equipment, to support disaster response efforts.
  9. Conduct post-disaster assessments and evaluations, and identify areas for improvement in future disaster response efforts.
  10. Maintain accurate records and reports of all disaster response activities, including volunteer hours and resources utilized.
  11. Uphold the values of the American Red Cross and promote a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and respect in all interactions.
  12. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, communicating with the media and the public about disaster response efforts and the impact of disasters on the community.
  13. Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and innovation in disaster response operations, and implement changes as needed.
  14. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, and ensure the safety of all team members and volunteers during disaster response operations.
  15. Represent the American Red Cross at local and regional meetings and events, building relationships and promoting our mission and services.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Emergency Management, Public Health, Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Disaster Response And Recovery, Preferably With A Nonprofit Organization Or Government Agency.

  • Strong Leadership And Project Management Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Coordinate And Manage Teams In High-Stress And Fast-Paced Environments.

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of Disaster Preparedness, Response, And Recovery Protocols, As Well As Federal And State Emergency Management Regulations.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Collaborate And Build Relationships With Community Partners, Volunteers, And Stakeholders.
