  1. Perform phlebotomy procedures on blood donors in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Ensure accurate identification of donors and proper labeling of donated blood.
  3. Monitor donor reactions and respond appropriately to any adverse reactions.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized donor center, including sanitizing equipment and work areas.
  5. Educate donors on the importance of blood donation and ensure they understand the process.
  6. Follow all standard operating procedures and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of donated blood.
  7. Keep accurate and detailed records of donor demographics and donation history.
  8. Coordinate with other staff members to ensure efficient flow of donors and timely completion of tasks.
  9. Communicate effectively with donors, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  10. Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of donor information.
  11. Attend training sessions and stay up-to-date on all phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
  12. Participate in recruitment efforts to increase the number of blood donors.
  13. Troubleshoot any technical or equipment issues that may arise.
  14. Maintain inventory of supplies and report any shortages to management.
  15. Provide excellent customer service to donors and address any concerns or questions they may have.
  16. Uphold the mission and values of the American Red Cross in all interactions with donors and colleagues.

Job Qualifications

  • Completion Of A Phlebotomy Training Program: Candidates For A Donor Center Phlebotomist Position At American Red Cross Must Have Completed A Formal Phlebotomy Training Program From An Accredited Institution. This Ensures That They Have The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform Blood Collection Procedures Safely And Accurately.

  • Certification As A Phlebotomist: In Addition To Completing A Training Program, Candidates Must Also Hold A Valid Certification As A Phlebotomist. This Certification Is Typically Obtained Through A Nationally Recognized Organization Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Excellent Venipuncture Skills: Donor Center Phlebotomists Must Have Excellent Venipuncture Skills To Be Able To Successfully Collect Blood From Donors. This Includes The Ability To Locate And Select Appropriate Veins, Use Proper Techniques For Blood Collection, And Handle Any Complications That May Arise During The Procedure.

  • Knowledge Of Safety And Infection Control Protocols: As Blood Collection Procedures Carry A Risk Of Infection, It Is Essential For Donor Center Phlebotomists To Have A Thorough Understanding Of Safety And Infection Control Protocols. This Includes Proper Hand Hygiene, Use Of Personal Protective Equipment, And Disposal Of Biohazardous Materials.

  • Strong Communication And Customer Service Skills: Donor Center Phlebotomists Must Possess Strong Communication And Customer Service Skills To Interact With Donors In A Professional And Compassionate Manner. This Includes Explaining The Blood Donation Process, Answering Any Questions Or Concerns, And Providing Care And Support During And After The Procedure.
