Lead and manage the External Research & Development team, providing guidance and support to ensure successful execution of projects and initiatives
Identify and evaluate potential external partners including academic institutions, research organizations, and biotech companies, to collaborate with on innovative and impactful research projects
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including external partners, to foster productive and collaborative partnerships
Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and trends in the biopharmaceutical industry, and actively seek out new opportunities for collaboration and research
Negotiate and establish agreements and contracts with external partners, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives
Develop and implement strategies to effectively manage and track progress of external research projects, including budget and timelines
Provide strategic input and guidance to internal teams on external research and development initiatives, ensuring alignment with company priorities and objectives
Represent Amgen and the External Research & Development team at conferences, meetings, and other events, promoting the company's mission and showcasing its research capabilities
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the External Research & Development team, promoting a positive and productive work environment
Stay compliant with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, ensuring ethical and responsible conduct in all external collaborations.

Job Qualifications

Advanced Degree In A Scientific Field: A Director Of External Research & Development At Amgen Should Have A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In A Scientific Field Such As Biology, Biochemistry, Or Pharmacology. An Advanced Degree Demonstrates A Strong Understanding Of The Scientific Principles Necessary For This Role.
Extensive Experience In Pharmaceutical Research: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 10 Years Of Experience In The Pharmaceutical Industry With A Proven Track Record Of Success In Research And Development. This Experience Should Include Working With External Partners, Managing Collaborations, And Overseeing External Research Projects.
Strong Leadership And Management Skills: As A Director, This Individual Will Be Responsible For Leading A Team And Managing Relationships With External Partners. Therefore, They Should Possess Strong Leadership And Management Skills, Including The Ability To Effectively Communicate, Delegate Tasks, And Make Strategic Decisions.
Knowledge Of Regulatory And Compliance Requirements: Amgen Operates In A Highly Regulated Industry, And The Director Of External Research & Development Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Regulatory And Compliance Requirements To Ensure That All External Research Projects Are Conducted In Accordance With Industry Standards.
Excellent Project Management Skills: This Role Will Involve Overseeing Multiple Projects Simultaneously, Both Internally And With External Partners. The Ideal Candidate Should Have Excellent Project Management Skills, Including The Ability To Prioritize Tasks, Manage Timelines, And Identify And Address Any Potential Issues Or Challenges.
