- Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and their families to explain and interpret genetic testing results, assess risk factors, and provide emotional support.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement personalized treatment plans based on genetic test results.
- Stay current with advances in genetic research and technology to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information to patients and their families.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including detailed notes from counseling sessions and test results.
- Educate patients and their families on inheritance patterns, genetic disorders, and available resources for support and treatment.
- Serve as a resource for healthcare professionals by providing genetic expertise and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Participate in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about genetic counseling and the services offered at Atrium Health.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards set by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and Atrium Health.
- Continuously evaluate and improve genetic counseling processes and procedures to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
- Mentor and train Genetic Counselor I staff members and serve as a subject matter expert for complex cases.
- Maintain a positive and compassionate attitude while working with patients and their families, even in challenging or emotional situations.
- Adhere to all regulatory and compliance guidelines related to genetic testing and counseling, including HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in research studies and clinical trials related to genetics to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
- Collaborate with insurance companies to obtain coverage for genetic testing and counseling services for patients.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously enhance skills and knowledge in the field of genetic counseling.
A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program.
Board Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc).
Minimum Of 3 Years Experience As A Genetic Counselor, Preferably In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting.
Proficiency In Genetic Testing And Counseling Techniques, Including Family History Analysis, Risk Assessment, And Communication Of Complex Medical Information.
Strong Interpersonal Skills And Ability To Work Effectively With Patients, Healthcare Providers, And Other Members Of The Healthcare Team.
