  1. Manage patient accounts: Responsible for accurately and efficiently managing patient accounts, including billing, insurance claims, and payments.
  2. Ensure timely billing and payments: Responsible for timely and accurate submission of claims to insurance companies and processing of payments from patients.
  3. Provide exceptional customer service: Serve as a point of contact for patients and their families, providing excellent customer service and addressing any questions or concerns related to their accounts.
  4. Maintain accurate records: Responsible for maintaining accurate and organized records of patient accounts, including billing information, payments, and insurance coverage.
  5. Monitor and reconcile accounts: Regularly monitor and reconcile patient accounts to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies or issues that need to be addressed.
  6. Collaborate with other departments: Work closely with other departments, such as billing, finance, and patient care, to ensure efficient and effective management of patient accounts.
  7. Stay up-to-date on healthcare regulations: Keep up-to-date on healthcare regulations and compliance requirements to ensure proper handling of patient accounts.
  8. Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and adhere to all privacy policies and regulations when handling patient accounts.
  9. Assist with financial inquiries: Provide assistance to patients and their families with any financial inquiries or concerns related to their accounts.
  10. Identify areas for improvement: Continuously evaluate and identify areas for improvement in the patient accounts process and make recommendations for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  11. Attend training and meetings: Attend all required training and meetings to stay informed on updates and changes in policies and procedures related to patient accounts.
  12. Other duties as assigned: Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the patient accounts department.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Medical Billing And Coding: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Billing And Coding Principles, Including Cpt, Icd-10, And Hcpcs Coding, Is Essential For A Patient Accounts Specialist At Atrium Health.

  • Experience With Electronic Health Records (Ehr) Systems: Atrium Health Uses Electronic Health Record Systems To Manage Patient Information, So Experience With Ehr Systems Is Important For This Role.

  • Understanding Of Insurance And Reimbursement Processes: The Patient Accounts Specialist Will Be Responsible For Working With Insurance Companies To Ensure Timely And Accurate Reimbursement, So A Solid Understanding Of Insurance And Reimbursement Processes Is Necessary.

  • Attention To Detail: Accuracy Is Critical In Medical Billing And Coding, And A Patient Accounts Specialist Must Possess Strong Attention To Detail To Ensure All Claims Are Processed Correctly.
