Job Description

At Baptist Health South Florida, we are looking for an experienced and innovative Coding Specialist to join our organization. This individual will be responsible for coding and abstracting patient records, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with established standards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in coding and abstracting in a healthcare setting, with a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) designation or equivalent. They must also have a strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines. The Coding Specialist must be able to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. They should demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines and tasks, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines to accurately code and abstract patient records.
  2. Ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of patient records and all sensitive and confidential information.
  4. Manage multiple deadlines and tasks, and prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
  5. Troubleshoot coding-related issues and provide solutions.
  6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to improve the quality of patient care.
  7. Stay current with changing coding regulations and guidelines.
  8. Generate and review reports for accuracy and completeness.
  9. Respond to coding-related inquiries from internal and external customers.
  10. Participate in continuing education to stay up to date with coding best practices.
