Job Description

The BBC is seeking a dedicated Archivist to join our team and help manage our vast collection of audiovisual materials. As an Archivist at the BBC, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and accessibility of our content for generations to come.   1. Oversee the management and preservation of the BBC's extensive collection of audiovisual materials.
  2. Ensure the proper cataloging and organization of all media in accordance with archival standards.
  3. Implement and maintain a comprehensive database system for tracking and accessing archived materials.
  4. Collaborate with other departments and teams to provide access to archived materials for production and research purposes.
  5. Develop and implement preservation strategies to safeguard the physical and digital integrity of media.
  6. Conduct regular inventories and assessments of the archive to identify any potential preservation issues.
  7. Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in archival management.
  8. Train and supervise junior staff and interns in archival procedures and techniques.
  9. Respond to research requests from both internal and external stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner.
  10. Support the BBC's mission of preserving and sharing cultural heritage by promoting public access to archived materials.
  11. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all archival processes and procedures.
  12. Collaborate with external partners and organizations to acquire and exchange materials for the archive.
  13. Assist with digitization efforts to make archived materials more accessible.
  14. Handle delicate and confidential materials with care and discretion.
  15. Uphold ethical standards and copyright laws in all aspects of archival work.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Library Science, Archival Studies, Or A Related Field.

  • At Least 3 Years Of Experience Working In An Archival Or Library Setting, Preferably In A Media Or Broadcasting Environment.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Archival Principles, Practices, And Procedures, Including Digitization And Preservation Techniques.

  • Proficiency In Various Archival Software And Databases, Such As Axiell Calm And Preservica.

  • Excellent Organizational Skills And Attention To Detail, With The Ability To Manage And Prioritize Multiple Projects Simultaneously.
