Medical Coder

Blue Shield of California is looking for a Medical Coder to join our team! This position is an integral part of the medical coding team here at Blue Shield of California, and is responsible for accurately coding and abstracting medical records in accordance with established coding and abstracting guidelines. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with experience in medical coding and abstracting. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.The successful candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems. We are looking for someone who is certified in medical coding (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) and has a minimum of two years of medical coding experience. A working knowledge of medical records and insurance claims processing is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

1. Accurately code and abstract medical records according to established coding and abstracting guidelines.
2. Analyze and solve problems related to medical coding.
3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical coding systems, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and others.
4. Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records.
5. Manage and track coding activities on a daily basis.
6. Serve as a resource for coding questions and provide feedback to the coding team.
7. Monitor coding trends and develop strategies to improve coding accuracy and efficiency.
8. Communicate effectively with other departments, physicians, and insurance companies.
9. Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
