  4. Monitor and test air, water, and soil quality to identify any potential hazards to public health.
  5. Educate the community on environmental health issues and provide resources for maintaining a healthy and clean environment.
  6. Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to address environmental health concerns and develop solutions.
  7. Keep accurate records and reports of all inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions.
  8. Stay updated on current environmental health laws, regulations, and best practices.

  10. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in environmental health.
  11. Communicate effectively with individuals and businesses to promote understanding and compliance with environmental health regulations.
  12. Conduct research and data analysis to identify trends and potential areas of concern in the city's environmental health.
  13. Participate in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about the importance of environmental health.
  14. Collaborate with other city departments to develop and implement policies and procedures related to environmental health.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Environmental Health Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Environmental Health, Public Health, Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For This Position. This Education Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Understand And Enforce Environmental Health Regulations.

  • Certification As A Registered Environmental Health Specialist (Rehs): Many Employers, Including The City Of Austin, Require Candidates To Hold A Valid Rehs Certification. This Certification Demonstrates That The Individual Has Met Certain Standards Of Competence And Is Knowledgeable In The Field Of Environmental Health.

  • Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Environmental Health Regulations: A Strong Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Regulations Pertaining To Environmental Health Is Essential For This Role. This Includes Knowledge Of Sanitation, Food Safety, Air Quality, Water Quality, And Hazardous Materials Regulations.

  • Experience In Conducting Inspections And Investigations: Experience In Conducting Environmental Health Inspections And Investigations Is A Must For This Position. Candidates Should Have A Demonstrated Ability To Identify And Document Potential Health Hazards, As Well As The Knowledge To Recommend Appropriate Corrective Actions.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Environmental Health Officers Often Interact With The Public, Other Government Agencies, And Business Owners. Therefore, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role.
