Job Description

Welcome to the City of Austin! We are currently seeking a dedicated Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team.   1. Develop and implement effective occupational health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  2. Conduct regular inspections and audits of all city facilities and worksites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  3. Collaborate with department managers and employees to identify and address safety concerns and develop solutions for improving workplace safety.
  4. Provide training and education to employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
  5. Investigate and document all workplace accidents and incidents, and make recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
  6. Stay up-to-date on changes to occupational health and safety regulations, and ensure that the city remains in compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, and make adjustments as needed to improve overall safety performance.
  8. Serve as a resource for employees, providing guidance and support on safety-related matters and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  9. Collaborate with external agencies and organizations, such as OSHA, to ensure the city is following best practices and maintaining a safe work environment.
  10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports related to occupational health and safety, and provide regular updates to city leadership on safety performance and initiatives.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Occupational Health And Safety Or A Related Field.

  • Certification In Occupational Health And Safety (Such As Certified Safety Professional Or Certified Industrial Hygienist).

  • At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In Occupational Health And Safety, Preferably In A Government Or Municipal Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Federal, State, And Local Regulations Related To Occupational Health And Safety, Including Osha And Epa Standards.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Train And Educate Employees On Safety Procedures And Protocols.
