
Assistant Corporation Counsel

- Provide legal counsel and support to the City of Detroit in various areas of municipal law, such as contracts, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure the city's actions and policies are in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and policies, to protect the interests of the city.
- Represent the city in legal proceedings, including court hearings, mediations, and negotiations, and provide advice and guidance to city officials and employees.
- Collaborate with other city departments and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for addressing legal issues and mitigating potential risks.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations that may impact the city and provide recommendations for adapting to these changes.
- Maintain accurate and organized legal records and documentation, and prepare reports and presentations as needed for city officials and other stakeholders.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to municipal law and best practices.
- Serve as a liaison between the city and external legal counsel, as well as other government agencies and organizations.
- Uphold the city's values and mission, and act with integrity and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities.
Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Admission To The State Bar Of Michigan And In Good Standing.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Practicing Law, Preferably In Municipal Or Government Law.
Knowledge And Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Laws, Regulations, And Legal Procedures Relevant To Municipal Government.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Represent The Interests Of The City Of Detroit In Legal Matters.
