  1. Oversee and manage a team of code enforcement specialists, ensuring that all tasks and responsibilities are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  2. Provide guidance, training, and support to code enforcement specialists, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  3. Monitor and assess the performance of code enforcement specialists, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to increase productivity and efficiency.
  4. Ensure that all city codes and regulations are being enforced consistently and fairly, and take appropriate action when necessary.
  5. Collaborate with other city departments to identify and address areas of concern and improve overall compliance with city codes.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with community members and stakeholders, promoting a positive image of the city and its code enforcement efforts.
  7. Conduct regular inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with city codes and regulations.
  8. Stay up-to-date with changes in city codes and ordinances, and communicate these changes to the code enforcement team.
  9. Handle and resolve complaints and disputes related to code enforcement, escalating issues to higher authorities when necessary.
  10. Prepare and maintain reports and documentation related to code enforcement activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  11. Represent the city and the code enforcement team in meetings, hearings, and other public forums, advocating for the city's codes and regulations.
  12. Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusivity, and professionalism within the code enforcement team.
  13. Collaborate with other city departments to develop and implement policies and procedures related to code enforcement.
  14. Uphold the values and mission of the city, promoting a safe and thriving community for all residents.
  15. Continuously strive to improve code enforcement processes and procedures to better serve the needs of the community.

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Experience In Code Enforcement: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience Working In Code Enforcement, Preferably In A Supervisory Role. They Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Codes And Regulations Related To Building, Zoning, Health, And Safety.

  • Leadership And Management Skills: The Code Enforcement Specialist Supervisor Will Be Responsible For Overseeing A Team Of Code Enforcement Officers. They Should Have Strong Leadership And Management Skills, Including The Ability To Delegate Tasks, Provide Guidance And Training To Team Members, And Effectively Communicate With Other City Departments And Stakeholders.

  • Knowledge Of City Policies And Procedures: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Policies And Procedures Of The City Of Detroit. This Includes Knowledge Of The City's Code Enforcement Process, The Legal Framework For Enforcing Codes, And The City's Organizational Structure.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Code Enforcement Specialist Supervisor Will Be Required To Interact With A Variety Of Individuals, Including Residents, Business Owners, And Other City Officials. They Should Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Communicate Codes And Regulations, Address Complaints, And Resolve Conflicts.

  • Attention To Detail And Problem-Solving Abilities: Code Enforcement Can Be A Complex And Challenging Field, And The Code Enforcement Specialist Supervisor Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail And Strong Problem-Solving Abilities. They Should Be Able To Analyze Complex Situations, Identify Violations, And Develop Effective Solutions To Address Them.
