
Assistant City Attorney

- Provide legal counsel and representation to the City of Grand Rapids in various legal matters.
- Research and analyze complex legal issues and provide recommendations to City officials.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents on behalf of the City.
- Prepare and present legal opinions, reports, and other documents to City officials and committees.
- Represent the City in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and appeals.
- Advise City departments and officials on compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Conduct legal research and stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
- Collaborate with other City attorneys and outside counsel on complex legal matters.
- Communicate with citizens, community organizations, and other stakeholders on legal issues affecting the City.
- Assist in the management and supervision of legal support staff.
- Maintain accurate and organized legal files and documentation.
- Attend City Council meetings and provide legal advice and support as needed.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to continuously improve legal knowledge and skills.
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in all legal matters.
Juris Doctor (Jd) Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Of Michigan.
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience Practicing Law, Preferably In Municipal Or Government Law.
Knowledge Of Local And State Laws, Regulations, And Procedures Relevant To Municipal Law.
Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Advocate For The City's Legal Interests.
