Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency calls, coordinating with first responders, and ensuring the safety of our residents.   1. Receive and dispatch emergency calls in a timely and efficient manner.
  2. Coordinate and communicate with first responders to ensure quick and effective response to emergencies.
  3. Remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations to accurately gather and relay information.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calls and dispatch activities.
  5. Monitor and operate various communication systems and equipment.
  6. Provide excellent customer service to callers and first responders.
  7. Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of residents and first responders.
  8. Prioritize and multitask effectively to handle multiple emergency situations simultaneously.
  9. Stay updated on current public safety policies and procedures.
  10. Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operations and communication.
  11. Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  12. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  13. Act as a positive representative of the City of Jersey City and its public safety team.
  14. Demonstrate strong decision-making skills in fast-paced and high-stress situations.
  15. Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  16. Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by superiors.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Emergency Response Protocols: A Public Safety Telecommunicator At The City Of Jersey City Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Emergency Response Procedures, Including Proper Handling Of 911 Calls, Dispatching Emergency Services, And Coordinating With Different Agencies.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In This Role As A Public Safety Telecommunicator Will Be Required To Communicate With Emergency Responders, Callers, And Other Agencies In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment.

  • Ability To Multitask And Remain Calm Under Pressure: Public Safety Telecommunicators Must Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks Simultaneously And Make Quick Decisions During Emergency Situations. They Should Also Be Able To Remain Composed And Focused Under Pressure.

  • Familiarity With Emergency Communication Technology: Applicants Should Have Experience Or Knowledge Of Using Computer-Aided Dispatch (Cad) Systems, Radio Communication Equipment, And Other Emergency Response Technology.

  • Critical Thinking And Problem-Solving Skills: Public Safety Telecommunicators Must Be Able To Analyze Information Quickly And Accurately To Determine The Appropriate Response To An Emergency Situation. They Should Also Possess Strong Problem-Solving Skills To Handle Unexpected Or Complex Situations.
