- Develop and implement public relations strategies to promote the initiatives and services of the City of Kalamazoo.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and facilitate all media relations for the city.
- Create and maintain relationships with local media outlets to ensure accurate and positive coverage of city events and initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of media contacts and monitor media coverage of the city.
- Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials to promote city news and events.
- Collaborate with various departments within the city to gather information and create compelling and informative content.
- Manage the city's social media presence and engage with the community through various online platforms.
- Plan and execute public events and initiatives to engage with residents and promote city services.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the city and represent its interests to the public.
- Monitor and respond to public inquiries and feedback on social media and other communication channels.
- Develop and maintain the city's brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
- Stay up-to-date on current events and trends in the city and use this information to inform communication strategies.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to various groups and organizations to inform them about city initiatives and services.
- Assist in crisis communication efforts and manage the dissemination of important information during emergencies.
- Continuously evaluate and improve communication strategies to ensure effective and efficient communication with the public.
Bachelor's Degree In Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Or A Related Field.
Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In A Similar Role, Preferably In A Government Or Municipal Setting.
Strong Written And Verbal Communication Skills, With Experience In Creating Press Releases, Media Kits, And Other Public Information Materials.
Knowledge Of Local Government Operations And Familiarity With The City Of Kalamazoo And Its Various Departments And Initiatives.
Experience In Crisis Communication And Managing Sensitive Or Controversial Issues In A Professional And Effective Manner.
