Job Description

Welcome to the City of Pittsburgh's Stormwater Construction team! We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Inspector to join our dynamic team in ensuring the proper installation and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure throughout our city. As an Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as the safety and functionality of stormwater systems.   1. Conduct regular inspections of stormwater construction sites to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  2. Monitor the installation and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure, including pipes, culverts, and detention basins.
  3. Document and report any observed violations or issues to the appropriate authorities.
  4. Communicate with contractors, engineers, and other team members to ensure proper installation and maintenance of stormwater systems.
  5. Collaborate with environmental agencies to ensure compliance with stormwater management regulations.
  6. Conduct site visits and inspections during and after storms to assess the functionality and effectiveness of stormwater systems.
  7. Identify potential hazards or safety concerns and take appropriate action to address them.
  8. Keep accurate records and maintain organized documentation of inspections and findings.
  9. Provide guidance and support to contractors and construction crews on stormwater management best practices.
  10. Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to stormwater management.
  11. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  12. Serve as a liaison between the city and other stakeholders, such as community groups and environmental organizations.
  13. Act as a representative of the city and promote the importance of proper stormwater management to the public.
  14. Collaborate with other city departments and teams to coordinate stormwater management efforts.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve inspection processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective stormwater management.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience With Stormwater Management And Construction: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Stormwater Management And Construction, With A Strong Understanding Of Relevant Regulations And Best Practices.

  • Knowledge Of Local And State Regulations: The Inspector Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of All Relevant Local And State Regulations Related To Stormwater Management And Construction. This Includes Knowledge Of Permit Requirements, Erosion Control Measures, And Sediment And Pollution Control Methods.

  • Strong Communication Skills: The Inspector Will Be Required To Communicate With Contractors, Developers, And Other Stakeholders On A Regular Basis. Therefore, Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role.

  • Attention To Detail: As A Stormwater Construction Inspector, Attention To Detail Is Crucial To Ensure That All Construction Activities Are In Compliance With Regulations. The Ideal Candidate Should Be Able To Identify Potential Issues And Address Them Before They Become Bigger Problems.

  • Relevant Certifications: The City Of Pittsburgh May Require The Inspector To Hold Certain Certifications Related To Stormwater Management And Construction. These May Include Certifications From The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (Npdes) Or The International Erosion Control Association (Ieca). Candidates With These Certifications Will Be Given Preference.
