Job Description

  1. Coordinate and dispatch fire and medical resources to emergency situations within the city of San Diego.
  2. Receive and prioritize emergency calls from citizens, accurately gather and record information, and dispatch appropriate resources in a timely manner.
  3. Remain calm and composed under pressure while handling high-stress situations and effectively communicate with multiple parties simultaneously.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all emergency calls, dispatches, and other relevant information.
  5. Collaborate with other emergency response agencies and departments to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to emergency situations.
  6. Monitor and maintain communication with emergency responders in the field, providing updates and relaying important information as needed.
  7. Continually assess and evaluate emergency situations, adjusting response plans and strategies as necessary.
  8. Provide clear and concise instructions to emergency responders, citizens, and other parties involved in emergency situations.
  9. Adhere to established protocols and procedures for emergency dispatching, ensuring consistent and efficient response to all incidents.
  10. Stay informed about current emergency response practices, procedures, and technologies, and participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  11. Maintain a strong sense of teamwork and professionalism, collaborating with colleagues and emergency responders to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
  12. Demonstrate a commitment to public service and the mission of the City of San Diego, consistently providing high-quality and compassionate service to all citizens.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education.

  • Certification In Emergency Telecommunications, Such As Emergency Medical Dispatcher (Emd) Or Emergency Fire Dispatcher (Efd).
