Job Description

  1. Oversee the daily operations of the animal shelter, including coordinating the intake, care, and adoption of animals.
  2. Develop and implement animal welfare policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
  3. Maintain accurate records of all animals in the shelter, including medical and behavioral histories.
  4. Work closely with animal control officers to ensure the safe and humane handling of animals.
  5. Collaborate with local animal welfare organizations to promote adoption and foster programs.
  6. Train and supervise shelter staff and volunteers to ensure the proper care and handling of animals.
  7. Conduct regular inspections of the shelter to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  8. Coordinate with veterinary staff to ensure proper medical care for all animals in the shelter.
  9. Manage the shelter budget and make recommendations for improvements and resource allocation.
  10. Foster positive relationships with community members, businesses, and other organizations to promote animal welfare and adoption programs.
  11. Organize and participate in community events and outreach programs to educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the services offered by the shelter.
  12. Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding animal welfare and shelter operations.
  13. Stay current on industry developments and trends related to animal welfare and make recommendations for improvements and updates to shelter operations.
  14. Serve as a liaison between the shelter and other city departments, as well as local and state agencies.
  15. Maintain a safe and clean environment for animals and staff in the shelter.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Animal Science, Animal Shelter Management, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In Animal Shelter Management, Preferably In A Municipal Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Animal Welfare Laws And Regulations, As Well As Best Practices For Animal Care And Handling.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work With A Diverse Group Of Stakeholders Including Staff, Volunteers, And Community Members.

  • Strong Organizational And Leadership Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Manage And Supervise A Team Of Shelter Staff And Volunteers.
