
Deputy City Attorney (Litigation)

- Represent the City of San Jose in all legal matters related to litigation, including but not limited to civil lawsuits, administrative hearings, and appeals.
- Conduct legal research and provide written and oral opinions on complex legal issues related to litigation.
- Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, motions, and other court filings.
- Work closely with other attorneys and department staff to develop and implement legal strategies.
- Attend court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings on behalf of the City.
- Coordinate and collaborate with outside counsel, as needed.
- Advise City officials and departments on legal issues related to litigation.
- Negotiate settlements and participate in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Keep informed of changes in laws and regulations that may impact the City's legal position in litigation.
- Maintain accurate and organized case files and records.
- Maintain confidentiality in all legal matters and protect the City's interests.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the City in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the City Attorney or other supervisors.
A Juris Doctor (Jd) Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Admittance To The California State Bar And At Least 5 Years Of Experience Practicing Law, With A Focus On Litigation.
Strong Knowledge And Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Laws And Regulations.
Excellent Written And Oral Communication Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Argue And Present Legal Cases In Court.
Experience In Handling Complex And High-Profile Litigation Cases, And The Ability To Manage A Heavy Caseload.
