Job Description

Welcome to the City of San Jose! We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Deputy Director of the Housing Department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our residents by overseeing the development and management of affordable housing programs.   1. Develop and implement strategic plans and policies for affordable housing programs in the City of San Jose.
  2. Oversee the development, management, and maintenance of affordable housing units to ensure they meet all quality and safety standards.
  3. Collaborate with city officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to identify and address housing needs and concerns.
  4. Monitor and analyze housing market trends and make recommendations for program improvements and adjustments.
  5. Oversee the allocation of funding for affordable housing programs and ensure compliance with all regulations and funding requirements.
  6. Supervise and provide guidance to department staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  7. Manage department budget and resources to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with developers, landlords, and other housing industry professionals to facilitate affordable housing projects.
  9. Serve as a liaison between the Housing Department and other city departments, as well as external agencies and organizations.
  10. Represent the Housing Department in public meetings, hearings, and other events to promote and advocate for affordable housing initiatives.
  11. Stay informed about federal, state, and local regulations and legislation related to affordable housing and make recommendations for compliance.
  12. Prepare and present reports and updates to city officials and stakeholders on the progress and impact of affordable housing programs.
  13. Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of affordable housing programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  14. Uphold ethical standards and promote a positive work environment within the Housing Department.
  15. Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and in all housing initiatives.

Job Qualifications
  • A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In A Leadership Role Within The Housing Industry, Preferably In A Municipal Or Government Setting.

  • A Bachelor's Degree In Urban Planning, Public Administration, Or A Related Field. A Master's Degree Is Highly Desirable.

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Housing Policies, Regulations, And Funding Sources.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Collaborate With A Diverse Range Of Stakeholders And Community Members.

  • Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Abilities, With A Track Record Of Successfully Managing Complex Projects And Budgets. Experience In Strategic Planning And Program Evaluation Is A Plus.
