Respond promptly and professionally to all incoming emergency calls, providing necessary support and assistance to callers.
Remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, using effective communication skills to gather necessary information and dispatch appropriate emergency services.
Utilize computer-aided dispatch systems and other technology to accurately record and track emergency calls and dispatch units.
Monitor and coordinate emergency response efforts, including communicating with police, fire, and medical personnel to ensure timely and effective assistance.
Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations, such as CPR and first aid, to help stabilize the situation until emergency services arrive.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all emergency calls, including time, location, and nature of the call, for documentation and reporting purposes.
Follow established protocols and procedures to handle a variety of emergency situations, such as crimes in progress, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
Stay informed on current policies, procedures, and equipment used in emergency communications and attend training sessions to maintain and improve skills.
Remain available and ready to respond to any emergency situation, including working rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Uphold the highest level of professionalism and integrity when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
Foster positive relationships with coworkers and other emergency response personnel to ensure effective teamwork and coordination during emergency situations.
Continuously evaluate and improve emergency communication processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Provide excellent customer service to callers in distress, demonstrating empathy and compassion while maintaining a sense of urgency.
Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the safety and security of the community.
Serve as a positive representative of the City of Seattle and the Emergency Communications department, promoting the department's mission and values.

Job Qualifications

High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For The Position Of 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Dispatcher At The City Of Seattle. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Understanding Of Written And Verbal Communication.
Knowledge Of Emergency Response Procedures: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Emergency Response Procedures. This Includes The Ability To Remain Calm And Assess Situations Quickly, As Well As Knowledge Of The Appropriate Steps To Take In A Variety Of Emergency Situations.
Excellent Communication Skills: Strong Written And Verbal Communication Skills Are Essential For A 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Dispatcher. The Candidate Should Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Effectively With Callers, Emergency Responders, And Other Team Members In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment.
Ability To Multitask And Work Under Pressure: The Job Of A 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Dispatcher Is Demanding And Requires The Ability To Multitask And Work Efficiently Under Pressure. The Candidate Should Be Able To Handle Multiple Phone Calls, Radio Transmissions, And Computer Tasks Simultaneously While Remaining Calm And Focused.
Prior Experience In Emergency Dispatch Or Related Field: Previous Experience As A 9-1-1 Dispatcher Or In A Similar Emergency Response Role Is Preferred For The Position At The City Of Seattle. This Experience Provides The Candidate With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Handle Emergency Situations Effectively And Efficiently.
