
Language Access Program and Policy Specialist

- Develop and implement language access policies and initiatives to ensure equal access to city services for all residents, regardless of their language or cultural background
- Collaborate with community organizations, city departments, and other stakeholders to identify and address language access barriers
- Conduct research and analysis to assess the language needs of diverse communities and make recommendations for improving language access
- Serve as a liaison between city departments and community members to address language access issues and ensure compliance with language access policies
- Provide training and resources to city employees on best practices for serving linguistically diverse populations
- Advocate for language access and equity in all city services and programs
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of language access policies and programs and make adjustments as needed
- Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal laws and policies related to language access and make recommendations for compliance
- Represent the city at community events and meetings to promote language access and build relationships with diverse communities
- Maintain accurate records and data related to language access efforts and report on progress to city leadership.
Fluency In Multiple Languages: The Language Access Program And Policy Specialist Should Possess Fluency In At Least Two Languages In Addition To English. This Is Necessary To Effectively Communicate With Limited English Proficient Individuals And To Accurately Translate Documents And Materials.
Knowledge Of Language Access Laws And Policies: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Laws And Policies Related To Language Access. This Includes The Americans With Disabilities Act, Title Vi Of The Civil Rights Act, And The Seattle Language Access Ordinance.
Experience In Program Development And Implementation: The Language Access Program And Policy Specialist Should Have Experience In Developing And Implementing Language Access Programs And Policies. This Includes Conducting Needs Assessments, Creating Language Access Plans, And Evaluating Program Effectiveness.
Strong Interpersonal And Communication Skills: The Job Requires The Ability To Work With Diverse Populations And Communicate Effectively With Individuals From Various Cultural And Linguistic Backgrounds. The Candidate Should Have Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Be Culturally Competent, And Have Experience Working With Diverse Communities.
Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: The Language Access Program And Policy Specialist Should Be Able To Analyze Data And Information To Identify Gaps In Language Access Services And Develop Solutions To Address Them. This Requires Strong Critical Thinking And Problem-Solving Skills, As Well As The Ability To Work Independently And Make Sound Decisions.
