Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Librarian to join our team and help us fulfill our mission of promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and cultural enrichment. As a Librarian at the City of Seattle, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents by connecting them with resources and services that empower and educate. If you are a customer service-oriented individual with a strong background in library science and a passion for supporting your community, we encourage you to apply.

  1. Provide excellent customer service to library patrons by assisting with research, reference and circulation needs.
  2. Promote literacy, lifelong learning, and cultural enrichment by developing and implementing programs and events for all ages.
  3. Manage and maintain library collections, including selecting, purchasing, cataloging, and weeding materials to ensure relevancy and accessibility.
  4. Utilize knowledge of library resources and technology to assist patrons with finding and accessing information.
  5. Collaborate with other library staff to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the mission and goals of the library.
  6. Actively engage with the community by attending outreach events and building partnerships with local organizations.
  7. Provide guidance and support to library volunteers and interns.
  8. Stay up-to-date with advancements in library science and technology, and apply them to improve services and operations.
  9. Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of library services through data analysis and feedback from patrons.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized library space, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons.
  11. Assist with budgeting and financial management of library resources.
  12. Continuously strive to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of library services for diverse populations.
  13. Represent the library and promote its services and resources through various marketing and communication channels.
  14. Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in library science and customer service.
  15. Uphold the values and standards of the City of Seattle while carrying out job duties.

Job Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree In Library Science Or Information Science From An Accredited Institution.

  • Experience Working In A Library Setting, Preferably In A Public Library.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Library Cataloging And Classification Systems.

  • Excellent Communication And Customer Service Skills.

  • Familiarity With Current Technology And Digital Resources Used In Libraries.
