We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as the Communications Director.This role is responsible for leading and executing the city's communication strategy, including overseeing all internal and external communications, managing media relations, and maintaining the city's brand and image.   1. Develop and implement the city's communication strategy to effectively communicate with the community and stakeholders.
  2. Oversee all internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with the city's goals and objectives.
  3. Manage media relations and serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries.
  4. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  5. Write and edit press releases, statements, and other communication materials to promote city initiatives and events.
  6. Monitor and analyze media coverage and provide regular reports to city leadership.
  7. Develop and maintain the city's brand and image, ensuring it is accurately and positively portrayed in all communications.
  8. Collaborate with various departments to identify and promote news and events that showcase the city's achievements and progress.
  9. Coordinate and lead crisis communication efforts in the event of an emergency or crisis situation.
  10. Manage the city's social media presence and engage with the community to promote city initiatives and address concerns.
  11. Train and advise city staff on effective communication techniques and best practices.
  12. Monitor and adhere to the city's communication policies and procedures.
  13. Stay informed on current trends and best practices in government communication and make recommendations for improvement.
  14. Attend and represent the city at public events, meetings, and conferences.
  15. Collaborate with community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to promote the city's initiatives and events.
  16. Serve as a spokesperson for the city and represent the city's interests in various public forums.
  17. Develop and manage the communication budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  18. Foster a positive and collaborative working relationship with city leadership, staff, and community members.
  19. Continuously evaluate and improve communication strategies to effectively reach and engage with diverse audiences.
  20. Uphold the city's commitment to transparency and open communication with the community.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Communications, Public Relations, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Experience In A Communications Or Public Relations Role, Preferably In A Governmental Or Municipal Setting.

  • Strong Writing And Editing Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Communicate Complex Information To Diverse Audiences.

  • Experience Managing And Directing A Team Of Communications Professionals.

  • Knowledge Of Local Government Processes And Procedures, As Well As Familiarity With The City Of Troy And Its History.
