- Observe and report any changes in animal behavior or health to senior staff members.
- Provide basic husbandry tasks, such as feeding, cleaning, and handling of animals.
- Learn and implement proper animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Participate in training programs to develop skills and knowledge in animal care and welfare.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and environmental conditions.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist in the administration of medication and treatments to animals as directed by senior staff members.
- Learn and adhere to all regulatory guidelines and standards related to animal welfare.

High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education: A Basic Education Is Required For Any Apprenticeship Program, And A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Usually The Minimum Requirement.
Interest In Animal Care And Welfare: A Passion For Animals And Their Well-Being Is Essential For This Role. Candidates Should Be Able To Demonstrate A Strong Interest In Animal Care And Welfare Through Previous Experience Or Volunteer Work.
Physical Fitness And Ability To Lift At Least 50 Pounds: Animal Care And Welfare Assistants May Be Required To Lift And Handle Animals Of Varying Sizes And May Also Need To Perform Physically Demanding Tasks Such As Cleaning And Carrying Equipment.
Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills: Apprentices In This Role Will Work Closely With Other Team Members And May Also Interact With Clients. Therefore, Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Necessary To Carry Out Tasks Effectively And Promote A Positive Work Environment.
Willingness To Learn And Follow Safety Protocols: As An Apprentice, Candidates Should Be Open To Learning New Skills And Following Safety Protocols To Ensure The Well-Being Of Both Animals And Themselves.
