
Historic Preservation Specialist

- Conduct thorough assessments of historic properties in the event of a disaster to determine potential damage and develop appropriate preservation plans.
- Collaborate with other FEMA personnel and external agencies to coordinate and implement preservation efforts during disaster response and recovery.
- Utilize specialized knowledge of preservation techniques and best practices to ensure the proper handling and protection of historic properties.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and organizations involved in historic preservation.
- Research and document historical significance and background information of properties to determine eligibility for preservation.
- Identify and prioritize at-risk historic properties in disaster-prone areas and develop strategies for their protection and preservation.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to other FEMA personnel and external partners on historic preservation matters.
- Conduct training and educational programs for FEMA staff and external partners on historic preservation techniques and procedures.
- Review and evaluate proposed projects and plans for their impact on historic properties and make recommendations for preservation.
- Monitor and document the condition and status of historic properties before, during, and after disaster events.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of historic preservation efforts and provide updates to superiors and stakeholders as necessary.
- Stay current on federal and state regulations and guidelines related to historic preservation and ensure compliance in all preservation activities.
- Serve as a liaison between FEMA and local communities to facilitate the preservation of historic properties.
- Participate in disaster preparedness and response exercises and drills to ensure readiness for preservation efforts.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve and enhance historic preservation efforts within FEMA.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Or A Related Field.
Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In Historic Preservation Work, Preferably In A Government Or Disaster Response Setting.
Working Knowledge Of Federal And State Laws And Regulations Related To Historic Preservation, Including The National Historic Preservation Act And The National Environmental Policy Act.
Experience Conducting Historic Resource Surveys And Assessments, Including Documentation, Evaluation, And Inventory Of Historic Structures And Sites.
Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills, With The Ability To Work With A Diverse Group Of Stakeholders Including Government Agencies, Community Groups, And Property Owners.
