Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery at Houston Methodist is a crucial role that requires a special blend of clinical experience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for delivering safe, quality, holistic care to mothers and newborns, as well as a commitment to advancing nursing standards and protocols.The successful Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, current licensure from the Texas Board of Nursing, and at least two years of labor & delivery experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, a collaborative work style, and the ability to remain organized and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide safe, holistic, quality care to mothers and newborns
  2. Assist in the delivery of babies and provide follow-up care
  3. Monitor and assess maternal and fetal vital signs and status before, during and after delivery
  4. Utilize clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
  5. Document patient care services by charting in the patient’s medical record
  6. Educate patients and their families on labor & delivery processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care
  7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide quality patient care
  8. Remain current on developments in labor & delivery and nursing standards and protocols
  9. Communicate with physicians and other healthcare staff to provide optimal patient care
  10. Ensure compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  11. Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  12. Respond to medical emergencies in a timely manner.
