  1. Process Release of Information requests: The primary responsibility of a Specialist in the Health Information Management Services Release of Information department is to process requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, and other authorized parties in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Maintain patient confidentiality: As a specialist in this department, it is crucial to handle all patient information with the utmost confidentiality and to ensure that all HIPAA regulations are followed.
  3. Ensure accuracy and completeness of records: The specialist is responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of all medical records before releasing them to the requesting party. This includes reviewing for any missing or incomplete information and making necessary corrections.

Respond to inquiries and provide assistance: The specialist must be knowledgeable about the release of information process and be able to respond to inquiries from patients, healthcare providers, and other authorized parties. They may also need to provide assistance to individuals requesting their medical records.
  5. Maintain department records and reports: The specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all release of information requests and completing any required reports for the department.

  • Bachelor's Degree In Health Information Management Or Related Field: A Strong Foundation In Health Information Management Is Essential For This Role, As It Requires A Deep Understanding Of Healthcare Regulations, Privacy Laws, And Medical Terminology.

  • Certified Release Of Information Specialist (Cris) Certification: This Certification Demonstrates Expertise In The Release Of Information Process, Including Hipaa Compliance And Electronic Health Records Management.

  • Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Health Information Management Or Release Of Information: Previous Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting And Handling Sensitive Patient Information Is Crucial For Success In This Role.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Federal And State Laws Related To Health Information Management: The Specialist Must Be Well-Versed And Up-To-Date On Applicable Laws And Regulations, Such As Hipaa And The Hitech Act.
