  1. Provide strategic legal guidance: The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for using their expertise to provide strategic legal advice and guidance to the employee benefits division at MetLife. This includes advising on complex legal issues, identifying potential risks, and developing effective solutions.
  2. Conduct legal research: The individual in this role will be responsible for conducting legal research on relevant laws and regulations related to employee benefits, staying current with industry developments, and analyzing how they may impact the company.
  3. Draft and review legal documents: The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for drafting and reviewing a variety of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and other related documents to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  4. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders: This position will require working closely with various internal teams, including HR, finance, and compliance, as well as external parties such as government agencies and outside counsel to effectively manage legal matters related to employee benefits.
  5. Develop and implement policies and procedures: The individual in this role will be responsible for developing and implementing company policies and procedures related to employee benefits, ensuring they are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  6. Handle legal disputes and investigations: In the event of legal disputes or investigations related to employee benefits, the Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for managing and providing legal support, including responding to inquiries, gathering evidence, and representing the company in legal proceedings.
  7. Stay updated on legal developments: The individual in this role will be responsible for staying updated on legal developments and changes in employee benefits laws and regulations, and effectively communicating any potential impacts to the company.
  8. Train and educate employees: The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for providing training and educational sessions to employees on relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to employee benefits.
  9. Ensure compliance: This position will require the individual to ensure the company's compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to employee benefits, including but not limited to ERISA, HIPAA, and

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Knowledge Of Employee Benefits Laws And Regulations: The Assistant General Counsel Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Federal And State Laws Related To Employee Benefits, Such As Erisa, Cobra, Hipaa, And Fmla.

  • Experience In Advising On Complex Benefits Issues: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience In Providing Legal Advice On A Wide Range Of Benefits Issues, Including Retirement Plans, Health And Welfare Plans, And Executive Compensation Plans.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Key Member Of The Legal Team, The Assistant General Counsel Should Possess Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills, As Well As The Ability To Build Effective Relationships With Internal And External Stakeholders.

  • Ability To Provide Strategic Guidance: The Role Requires The Ability To Think Strategically And Provide Guidance On The Development And Implementation Of Employee Benefits Programs That Align With The Overall Business Objectives Of Metlife.

  • Juris Doctor Degree And Active Bar Membership: A Juris Doctor Degree From An Accredited Law School And Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Is Typically Required For This Position. Additional Qualifications Such As Certification In Employee Benefits Law May Also Be Preferred.
