Finance & Accounting Intern

Northern Trust is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical Finance & Accounting Intern to join our team and contribute to our success. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the financial services industry and a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas, including financial statement analysis and portfolio accounting.The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field and knowledge of financial markets and investments. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are a must, as the successful applicant will need to develop effective working relationships with team members and other departments. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, as well as collaborate within a team, and have a sound understanding of financial statements. The ideal candidate should have excellent technical skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, as well as spreadsheet software.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze financial statements and portfolio accounting information.
2. Develop effective working relationships with team members and other departments.
3. Prepare reports and presentations related to financial statements and portfolio accounting.
4. Monitor and update financial data to ensure accuracy.
5. Help coordinate the annual financial audit and review of financial processes.
6. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
7. Assist with ad-hoc projects and provide support to the finance and accounting team.
8. Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial markets and investments.
9. Utilize Microsoft Office applications, as well as spreadsheet software, to create and analyze financial reports.
10. Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
