
Animal Health Technician

- Perform daily health checks on research animals and report any abnormalities to the appropriate personnel.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian or research team.
- Monitor and maintain animal housing conditions, including temperature, humidity, and cleanliness.
- Ensure all animal handling and procedures are in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of animal health protocols and procedures.
- Provide support to the research team by preparing animals for procedures and collecting samples.

- Collaborate with other animal health technicians and researchers to ensure the well-being of all animals.

Degree In Veterinary Technology Or Related Field: Candidates For The Animal Health Technician Position At Northwestern University Should Possess At Least An Associate's Degree In Veterinary Technology Or A Related Field. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Foundation In Animal Health And Veterinary Medicine.
Certification/License: Candidates Should Hold A Valid Certification Or License As A Registered Veterinary Technician (Rvt) Or Certified Veterinary Technician (Cvt). This Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met The Necessary Educational And Training Requirements To Work As A Veterinary Technician.
Experience With Laboratory Animals: Experience Working With Laboratory Animals Is Highly Desirable For This Position. Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Animal Husbandry, Handling, And Medical Care For A Variety Of Species Commonly Used In Research.
Knowledge Of Animal Care Protocols And Regulations: The Animal Health Technician At Northwestern University Will Be Responsible For Ensuring The Well-Being Of Animals Used In Research. Therefore, Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Animal Care Protocols And Regulations, Such As The Animal Welfare Act And Institutional Animal Care And Use Committee (Iacuc) Guidelines.
