Welcome to Northwestern University's Department of Art and Art History! We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Curatorial Associate to join our team. As a Curatorial Associate, you will play a vital role in supporting our curatorial efforts and promoting our diverse collection to the public. This position requires a highly organized individual with strong research abilities and a deep interest in the arts.   1. Conduct research on potential art exhibitions, artists, and artworks to support the curatorial team in developing new and engaging exhibitions.
  2. Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of exhibitions, including writing exhibition materials, organizing artwork loans, and overseeing installation.
  3. Collaborate with other members of the curatorial team to develop and implement innovative programming and events related to the exhibitions and collection.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records of the collection, including acquisitions, loans, and conservation efforts.
  5. Assist in the care and preservation of the collection, including conducting regular inventories and monitoring environmental conditions.
  6. Serve as a liaison between the department and external institutions, artists, and donors, facilitating communication and building relationships.
  7. Conduct guided tours and give talks about the collection and exhibitions to diverse audiences, including students, faculty, and the general public.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current trends and developments in the art world, and use this knowledge to contribute to the department's overall curatorial vision.
  9. Collaborate with other departments, such as education and marketing, to ensure effective promotion and visibility of exhibitions and events.
  10. Contribute to the department's publications, including exhibition catalogs and educational materials, by conducting research and writing content.
  11. Attend and participate in departmental meetings, providing input and suggestions for improving the curatorial process and enhancing the visitor experience.
  12. Uphold the department's mission and values, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the curatorial work.
  13. Maintain a professional and positive demeanor when interacting with colleagues, artists, and the public, representing the department and university with integrity and enthusiasm.

Job Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree In Art History, Museum Studies, Or A Related Field.

  • At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Museum Or Gallery Setting, Preferably In A Curatorial Role.

  • Strong Knowledge And Understanding Of Art History, With A Focus On Contemporary Art And Artists.

  • Excellent Research And Writing Skills, With The Ability To Produce High-Quality Exhibition Materials And Publications.

  • Demonstrated Experience In Project Management, Including Planning, Budgeting, And Coordinating With Multiple Stakeholders.
