- Conduct venipunctures and collect blood specimens from patients in a safe and efficient manner.
- Process and prepare blood samples for analysis according to established protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of patient information, test results, and any other relevant data.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to ensure a safe working environment for patients and staff.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and compassionate care while interacting with patients and their families.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure timely and accurate specimen collection and processing.
- Keep abreast of industry developments and best practices in phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
- Troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies with specimen collection and processing and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Maintain inventory and supplies necessary for phlebotomy procedures.
- Participate in quality control and assurance activities to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and staff, addressing any concerns or questions in a timely and professional manner.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attend and actively participate in continuing education and training programs to stay updated on the latest phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, infection control, and ethical standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the laboratory manager or supervisor.
Certification: A Lab Phlebotomist, Certified At Orlando Health Must Possess A Valid Certification From A Nationally Recognized Organization, Such As The American Society Of Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Phlebotomy Association (Npa).
Experience: Candidates For This Position Should Have A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience As A Phlebotomist In A Clinical Laboratory Setting. This Experience Should Include Performing Venipuncture, Capillary Punctures, And Specimen Processing.
Knowledge Of Laboratory Procedures: A Lab Phlebotomist, Certified Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Laboratory Procedures, Including Proper Specimen Collection, Handling, And Storage. They Should Also Be Familiar With Various Laboratory Tests And Their Purposes.
Attention To Detail: This Role Requires Meticulous Attention To Detail To Ensure Accurate Specimen Collection And Labeling. A Successful Candidate Should Be Able To Follow Strict Protocols And Maintain A High Level Of Accuracy In Their Work.
Interpersonal Skills: Working In A Hospital Setting, A Lab Phlebotomist, Certified Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. They Will Interact With Patients Of All Ages And Backgrounds, As Well As Healthcare Professionals, And Should Be Able To Do So With Empathy And Professionalism.
