At Scholastic, our Professional Books team is looking for an Acquisitions Editor to join the ranks and help us build our market-leading list of professional books. If you have a passion for education and a keen eye for new projects, this could be the perfect career opportunity for you.The ideal candidate for this Acquisitions Editor role should have an understanding of the professional books market, experience in book publishing, and a knack for finding new projects. The Acquisitions Editor will be responsible for researching, reviewing, and negotiating print and digital book rights. They must be able to identify and acquire titles that match the company’s editorial strategy and market objectives.Other required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in English, Education, or a related field, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong knowledge of the publishing industry.If this sounds like a great fit for you, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and acquire titles that match the company's editorial strategy and market objectives.
  2. Research and review print and digital book rights.
  3. Negotiate print and digital book rights.
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with agents, authors, and other publishing professionals.
  5. Ensure all acquisitions meet or exceed the company’s standards for quality.
  6. Monitor and analyze industry trends to identify new opportunities.
  7. Stay up to date on current developments in the field of education and publishing.
  8. Prepare and present acquisition strategies to executives.
  9. Manage the acquisition process from start to finish.
  10. Work collaboratively with the editorial, marketing, and sales teams.
