  1. Develop and implement strategies to protect Siemens' intellectual property rights globally.
  2. Manage all aspects of the patent application process, including drafting and filing applications, responding to office actions, and conducting patentability searches.
  3. Conduct patent portfolio analysis and provide recommendations for portfolio management and development.
  4. Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders to identify and capture new inventions.
  5. Conduct patent infringement analysis and provide opinions on the validity and enforceability of patents.
  6. Monitor and analyze competitor patent activity and provide recommendations for potential licensing or litigation opportunities.
  7. Provide legal guidance and support to internal teams on IP-related issues, including contracts, licensing agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
  8. Stay current on changes in patent laws and regulations and provide updates and training to internal teams as needed.
  9. Work closely with external counsel and manage relationships with patent agents and attorneys.
  10. Participate in IP due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions.
  11. Maintain accurate and organized records of all patent-related activities.
  12. Represent Siemens in patent-related disputes and negotiations.
  13. Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support business goals and objectives.
  14. Proactively identify and address potential IP risks and provide solutions to mitigate them.
  15. Foster a culture of innovation and awareness of IP rights within the organization.

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Knowledge Of Intellectual Property Laws: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Intellectual Property Laws In Europe, Including Patent Laws, Trademark Laws, And Copyright Laws. They Should Also Have Experience Dealing With International Patent Laws And Be Able To Navigate Complex Legal Frameworks.

  • Experience With Patent Prosecution And Portfolio Management: Siemens Deals With A Large Number Of Patents And Trademarks, And The Ip Counsel/European Patent Attorney Should Have Experience In Patent Prosecution And Portfolio Management. This Includes Drafting Patent Applications, Conducting Prior Art Searches, And Managing Patent Portfolios.

  • Technical Background In Engineering Or Science: A Strong Technical Background Is Essential For This Role, As The Ip Counsel/European Patent Attorney Will Be Dealing With Complex Technologies And Inventions. A Degree In Engineering, Science, Or A Related Field Is Preferred, Along With Experience In The Relevant Industry.

  • Registration As A European Patent Attorney: In Order To Practice As A Patent Attorney In Europe, The Candidate Must Be Registered With The European Patent Office (Epo). The Ideal Candidate Should Already Be A Registered European Patent Attorney Or Be Eligible For Registration.

  • Communication And Negotiation Skills: The Ip Counsel/European Patent Attorney Will Be Responsible For Communicating With Internal Stakeholders, External Attorneys, And Global Patent Offices. They Should Have Excellent Communication And Negotiation Skills To Effectively Represent Siemens' Interests And Protect Its Intellectual Property Rights. Fluency In Multiple Languages Is Also A Desirable Qualification For This Role.
