  1. Monitor and control the operation of bulk power systems to ensure reliable and efficient delivery of electricity to customers.
  2. Perform real-time analysis of system conditions and make necessary adjustments to maintain system stability.
  3. Respond promptly and effectively to any system disturbances or emergencies.
  4. Coordinate with other system operators, engineers, and field personnel to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  5. Maintain accurate records and logs of system operations and events.
  6. Continuously monitor and evaluate system performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  7. Stay up-to-date on industry standards and best practices related to bulk power operations.
  8. Train and mentor new system operators to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing development of skills.
  9. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service by promptly addressing and resolving any customer concerns related to power outages or disruptions.
  11. Communicate effectively with team members and management to provide updates on system operations and escalate any issues as needed.
  12. Participate in scheduled drills and exercises to prepare for potential emergency situations.
  13. Collaborate with system planning and engineering teams to implement system upgrades and improvements.
  14. Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and skills through ongoing training and development opportunities.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Power System Operations: The System Operator Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Power System Operations Including Transmission, Generation, And Distribution Systems. This Knowledge Is Necessary To Effectively Monitor And Control The Bulk Power System.

  • Experience With Energy Management Systems (Ems): The System Operator Must Have Experience Using Ems Software To Monitor And Control The Bulk Power System. This Includes Understanding Of Scada (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) Systems, Real-Time Data Analysis, And Contingency Analysis.

  • Communication And Coordination Skills: The System Operator Must Possess Strong Communication And Coordination Skills To Effectively Work With Various Teams And Stakeholders, Including Other Operators, Engineers, And External Entities Such As Grid Operators, Regulators, And Customers.

  • Decision-Making And Problem-Solving Abilities: The System Operator Must Be Able To Make Quick And Accurate Decisions In High-Stress Situations, And Effectively Troubleshoot And Resolve Problems That Arise In The Bulk Power System.

  • Education And Training: A Bachelor's Degree In Electrical Engineering Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For This Position. In Addition, The System Operator Must Complete Specialized Training And Certifications In Power System Operations And Safety Procedures. Prior Experience In A Control Room Environment And Familiarity With Nerc (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) Standards And Protocols Are Also Preferred Qualifications.
