Job Description

Welcome to the State of Colorado’s Accounts Payable team! We are currently seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to join our dynamic and fast-paced department. As an Accounts Payable Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments for our state agency. We are looking for a dedicated individual who is proficient in accounting principles, has excellent communication skills, and is able to work both independently and collaboratively.   1. Process and review vendor invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  2. Enter and code invoices into the accounting system.
  3. Prepare and obtain necessary approvals for disbursements.
  4. Maintain accurate records of all accounts payable transactions.
  5. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies.
  6. Communicate with vendors and internal departments to resolve any payment issues.
  7. Assist in month-end closing process by preparing accruals and reconciling accounts.
  8. Ensure compliance with state and departmental policies and procedures.
  9. Provide support for audits and respond to inquiries as needed.
  10. Continuously identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  11. Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  12. Stay up-to-date with accounting principles and regulations.
  13. Assist with special projects and ad hoc requests as assigned.
  14. Uphold a high level of confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.
  15. Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledge Of Accounting Principles: A Strong Understanding Of Basic Accounting Principles And Procedures Is Essential For An Accounts Payable Clerk In The State Of Colorado. This Includes Knowledge Of Accounts Payable Processes, General Ledger Coding, And Financial Reporting.

  • Communication Skills: An Accounts Payable Clerk Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Vendors, Coworkers, And Other Departments. This Includes Strong Written And Verbal Communication Skills, As Well As The Ability To Resolve Any Payment Discrepancies Or Issues.

  • Computer Proficiency: In Today's Digital Age, Strong Computer Skills Are A Must For An Accounts Payable Clerk. Proficiency In Accounting Software, Spreadsheets, And Other Relevant Programs Is Required To Perform Daily Tasks And Generate Reports. Experience With The State Of Colorado's Financial Systems Is A Plus.
