Job Description

Welcome to the State of Colorado's Department of Corrections! We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Correctional Officers. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facilities while also providing support and guidance to incarcerated individuals.   1. Maintain safety and security: The primary responsibility of a Correctional Officer is to ensure the safety and security of the correctional facility, its staff, and inmates.
  2. Provide support and guidance: Correctional Officers must also provide support and guidance to incarcerated individuals to help them with their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
  3. Monitor inmate behavior: It is the responsibility of a Correctional Officer to closely monitor inmate behavior and report any suspicious or concerning activities.
  4. Enforce rules and regulations: Correctional Officers must enforce rules and regulations within the correctional facility and ensure that all inmates are following them.
  5. Conduct searches: Correctional Officers are responsible for conducting searches of inmates, cells, and common areas to prevent the introduction of contraband into the facility.
  6. Respond to emergencies: In the event of an emergency, such as a fight or medical emergency, Correctional Officers must respond quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
  7. Maintain records: Correctional Officers are responsible for accurately maintaining records of inmate activities, incidents, and any other pertinent information.
  8. Communicate effectively: Strong communication skills are essential for Correctional Officers as they must communicate with inmates, fellow staff members, and other departments within the criminal justice system.
  9. Think quickly in high-stress situations: Working in a correctional facility can be unpredictable and stressful, and Correctional Officers must be able to think quickly and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  10. Attend training and development sessions: To stay updated on best practices and maintain a high level of competency, Correctional Officers are expected to attend training and development sessions regularly.
