As a Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our communities by supervising and managing incarcerated individuals.   1. Supervise and manage incarcerated individuals in a correctional facility.
  2. Ensure the safety and security of the community by enforcing rules and regulations.
  3. Conduct regular checks and inspections of inmates and their living areas.
  4. Monitor inmate behavior and maintain order within the facility.
  5. Respond to emergencies and handle high-pressure situations in a calm and composed manner.
  6. Report any incidents or rule violations to superiors and document them accurately.
  7. Conduct searches for contraband and confiscate items that pose a threat to safety and security.
  8. Provide guidance and support to inmates, including offering counseling and resources for rehabilitation.
  9. Uphold the values and standards of the State of Florida and act as a role model for incarcerated individuals.
  10. Collaborate with other correctional officers and staff to maintain a safe and functional facility.
  11. Attend training and professional development programs to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  12. Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
  13. Participate in the evaluation of inmates for potential release or transfer to other facilities.
  14. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to inmate activities, incidents, and disciplinary actions.
  15. Continuously monitor and assess the security measures in place and make recommendations for improvements.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Education And Experience Requirement: A High School Diploma Or Ged And At Least One Year Of Experience In A Related Field, Such As Law Enforcement Or Corrections.

  • Physical And Mental Fitness: Candidates Must Pass A Physical Fitness Test And A Psychological Evaluation To Ensure They Are Capable Of Performing The Demanding Duties Of A Correctional Officer.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Correctional Officers Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Inmates, Coworkers, And Other Law Enforcement Personnel. They Should Also Possess Strong Conflict Resolution Skills.

  • Knowledge Of Corrections Procedures And Protocols: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Corrections System And Its Rules, Regulations, And Procedures. This Includes Knowledge Of Inmate Rights, Security Protocols, And Emergency Procedures.

  • Ability To Pass A Background Check And Drug Test: All Candidates For A Correctional Officer Position Must Pass A Comprehensive Background Check And A Drug Test. A Criminal Record Or Positive Drug Test May Disqualify A Candidate From The Job.
