- Serve as the primary interpreter for the State of Florida, providing high-quality language access services to diverse individuals and communities.
- Utilize your language proficiency and cultural competency to effectively communicate complex information to non-English speakers.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural differences and sensitivities, and use this knowledge to promote inclusivity and understanding within the workplace.
- Work closely with colleagues and other departments to ensure that all communication and services are provided in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards when interpreting sensitive information.

- Educate and train colleagues and staff on language access best practices and guidelines.

Fluency In A Foreign Language: A Staff Interpreter At State Of Florida Must Possess Native Or Near-Native Proficiency In A Foreign Language. This Could Include Spoken And Written Proficiency, As Well As Knowledge Of Cultural Nuances And Colloquialisms.
Certification Or Equivalent Experience: The State Of Florida May Require A Staff Interpreter To Hold A Certification From A Recognized Interpreting Organization, Such As The National Association Of Judiciary Interpreters And Translators (Najit) Or The American Translators Association (Ata). Alternatively, Equivalent Experience In A Professional Interpreting Role May Also Be Considered.
Knowledge Of Legal Terminology: As A Staff Interpreter At State Of Florida, One Will Be Expected To Interpret In Legal Settings, Such As Courtrooms Or Law Offices. Therefore, A Strong Understanding Of Legal Terminology And Procedures Is Crucial For Success In This Role.
Interpreting Skills: A Staff Interpreter Should Possess Excellent Interpreting Skills, Including The Ability To Accurately And Clearly Convey Meaning Between The Source And Target Languages. This Includes Strong Listening, Memory Retention, And Note-Taking Skills.
Cultural Competence: State Of Florida Values Diversity And Inclusivity, Therefore A Staff Interpreter Should Have A Strong Understanding And Appreciation Of Different Cultures. This Includes Being Aware Of And Sensitive To Cultural Differences In Communication Styles, Body Language, And Customs, And Adapting Accordingly In Their Interpreting Role.
