1. Maintain the safety and security of inmates and staff within the state's correctional facilities.
2. Ensure that all rules and regulations are followed by inmates and report any violations to superiors.
3. Conduct regular rounds and inspections of the facility to identify and address any potential security risks.
4. Monitor and control inmate movement within the facility, including during meals, recreation time, and visitation.
5. Maintain accurate records of inmate activities, behavior, and any incidents that occur.
6. Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies and disturbances within the facility.
7. Administer and document inmate searches and contraband control measures.
8. Conduct intake and classification procedures for new inmates, including assessing potential risks and needs.
9. Provide support and guidance to inmates, including counseling and referral to appropriate resources.
10. Collaborate with other staff members, such as medical and mental health professionals, to ensure the well-being of inmates.
11. Maintain professional and respectful relationships with inmates, colleagues, and the public.
12. Attend and participate in trainings, meetings, and other professional development opportunities.
13. Uphold the values and mission of the Department of Public Safety and the State of Hawaii.
14. Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
