The State of Hawaii is seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Assistant III. This is a permanent part-time position with shift work, providing an excellent work-life balance. As a Library Assistant III, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our library, assisting patrons with their needs, and maintaining a welcoming and organized environment.   1. Provide excellent customer service to all library patrons, assisting them with their needs and inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
  2. Maintain a welcoming and organized environment in the library, ensuring all books and materials are properly shelved and displayed.
  3. Assist with the daily operations of the library, including checking books in and out, processing new materials, and maintaining accurate records.
  4. Collaborate with team members to create and implement programs and events that promote literacy and engage the community.
  5. Stay up-to-date with current literature and trends in library services in order to make informed recommendations to patrons.
  6. Handle cash and credit transactions for fines, fees, and book purchases accurately and efficiently.
  7. Provide guidance and support to Library Assistants I and II, assisting with training and answering any questions or concerns.
  8. Take responsibility for opening and closing procedures of the library, ensuring all equipment and materials are properly secured and accounted for.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and protect patron privacy in all interactions and transactions.
  10. Continuously evaluate and improve processes and procedures to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the library.
  11. Adhere to all library policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
  12. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed and up-to-date on library policies, procedures, and services.
  13. Act as a positive ambassador for the library, promoting its services and resources to the community.
  14. Maintain a high level of professionalism and positive attitude at all times, serving as a role model for other library team members.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Manager or other designated supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Library Science Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience Working In A Library Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Library Systems And Cataloging Procedures.

  • Strong Customer Service Skills And Ability To Assist Patrons With Various Inquiries.

  • Flexibility To Work Varying Shifts, Including Evenings And Weekends.
