Job Description

Welcome to the State of Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) Graham Security team! We are currently seeking individuals who are dedicated, self-motivated, and have a strong sense of integrity to join us as Correctional Officer Trainees. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facilities while also helping to rehabilitate and prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society.   1. Maintain the safety and security of the correctional facility by monitoring inmates and enforcing rules and regulations.
  2. Conduct routine checks and searches of inmates, cells, and common areas to prevent contraband and ensure compliance with facility policies.
  3. Supervise and manage inmate activities, including meals, recreation, work assignments, and visits.
  4. Escort and transport inmates to and from various locations within the facility, such as medical appointments or court appearances.
  5. Respond to emergencies, such as fights or medical incidents, and take appropriate action to maintain order and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
  6. Document all incidents, observations, and inmate behavior in written reports and logs.
  7. Communicate effectively and professionally with inmates, staff, and visitors to de-escalate conflicts and maintain a positive and respectful environment.
  8. Attend and participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to corrections and rehabilitation.
  9. Provide guidance and support to inmates, including counseling and referral services, to promote successful reintegration into society.
  10. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, to ensure the ethical and lawful treatment of inmates.
  11. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  12. Collaborate with other members of the DOC Graham Security team to ensure a cohesive and effective approach to maintaining safety and security within the facility.
  13. Display a strong sense of integrity and ethical conduct in all interactions and decisions, serving as a role model for inmates and fellow staff members.
  14. Continuously evaluate and assess the effectiveness of current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvement to enhance the overall operations of the facility.
  15. Embrace the mission and values of the State of Illinois Department of Corrections and actively contribute to the goal of promoting public safety and improving lives.
