  1. Ensure the safety of all visitors at state parks and beaches by monitoring and patrolling designated areas.
  2. Enforce all rules and regulations related to water safety and respond appropriately to any emergencies or incidents that may occur.
  3. Communicate effectively and professionally with visitors, colleagues, and superiors.
  4. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times while representing the state parks and beaches.
  5. Continuously assess and evaluate potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents or injuries.
  6. Provide first aid and CPR as needed and follow proper procedures for documenting incidents.
  7. Keep accurate records of daily activities, including weather conditions, attendance, and any incidents or accidents.
  8. Regularly inspect and maintain all equipment and facilities related to water safety.
  9. Assist in the planning and execution of special events and activities at the state parks and beaches.
  10. Serve as a role model for visitors by promoting and practicing safe swimming and water activities.
  11. Attend and participate in all required training and meetings to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
  12. Adhere to all state and federal regulations and guidelines related to lifeguarding and water safety.
  13. Collaborate with other lifeguards and park staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient work environment.
  14. Communicate any safety concerns or issues to superiors in a timely and professional manner.
  15. Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist in general park maintenance tasks as needed.
  16. Continuously strive to improve skills and knowledge related to lifeguarding and water safety.
  17. Represent the state of New York in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Current Lifeguard Certification: The Candidate Must Hold A Current And Valid Lifeguard Certification From A Reputable Organization Such As The American Red Cross Or The Ymca.

  • Cpr And First Aid Training: In Addition To The Lifeguard Certification, The Candidate Should Also Have Current And Up-To-Date Training In Cpr And First Aid.

  • Physical Fitness: Lifeguarding Is A Physically Demanding Job, And Candidates Should Be In Good Physical Condition To Perform Tasks Such As Swimming And Rescuing Individuals In The Water.

  • Water Safety Knowledge: A Strong Understanding Of Water Safety Protocols And Procedures Is Essential For A Lifeguard. This Includes Knowledge Of Proper Pool And Beach Rules, As Well As The Ability To Recognize And Respond To Potential Hazards.

  • Communication Skills: Lifeguards Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Both Colleagues And Patrons, Especially In Emergency Situations. The Ability To Remain Calm And Provide Clear Instructions Is Crucial For Maintaining A Safe Environment.
