Job Description

  1. Develop and implement strategic communication plans to promote the state's initiatives, programs, and services to the public.
  2. Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials to various media outlets.
  3. Manage and maintain relationships with media outlets and reporters to ensure accurate and timely coverage of state news.
  4. Monitor and track media coverage of the state and its initiatives.
  5. Plan and coordinate public events and press conferences to effectively communicate important information to the public.
  6. Utilize various social media platforms to engage with the public, share updates, and respond to inquiries.
  7. Work closely with other departments and agencies to gather information and ensure accurate and consistent messaging.
  8. Conduct research and analyze data to identify potential communication opportunities and challenges.
  9. Collaborate with graphic designers and other team members to create visually appealing and effective communication materials.
  10. Stay informed about current events and trends to ensure relevant and timely messaging.
  11. Train and mentor junior team members, including Public Information Specialists 1 and Trainees.
  12. Continuously evaluate and improve communication strategies to effectively reach and engage target audiences.
  13. Maintain a strong understanding of public relations and media relations principles and practices.
  14. Represent the state and its initiatives at conferences, events, and other public gatherings.
  15. Adhere to all state and departmental policies and procedures related to communication and public information.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Or A Related Field.

  • Experience In Writing And Editing For Various Mediums, Including Press Releases, Social Media, And Website Content.

  • Familiarity With Media Relations And The Ability To Cultivate Positive Relationships With Journalists.

  • Knowledge Of Public Information Laws And Regulations, Including The Freedom Of Information Law (Foil) And The Open Meetings Law.

  • Strong Organizational And Project Management Skills, With The Ability To Handle Multiple Tasks And Deadlines Efficiently.
