Job Description

The State of Oregon is looking for an experienced Correctional Counselor to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing counseling to individuals in a correctional facility, helping them to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies to address their personal, social, and emotional issues. You should have experience in a correctional setting, be a compassionate listener, and possess strong skills in communication, problem-solving, and decision-making. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of inmates and help them to make positive changes in their lives. Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field• Minimum two years of experience working in a correctional facility • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and colleagues• Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice system and its impact on individuals• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Knowledge of evidence-based practices and other relevant best practices• Ability to work independently and as part of a team• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide counseling and guidance to individuals in a correctional facility.
  2. Identify strengths and weaknesses of clients and develop strategies to address personal, social, and emotional issues.
  3. Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the criminal justice system and its impacts on individuals.
  5. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  6. Utilize evidence-based practices and other relevant best practices.
  7. Work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
