Job Description

You will work closely with individuals diagnosed with diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted infections, providing them with resources, education, and support to help them manage their conditions and prevent further transmission.To excel in this role, you must have a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as public health or social work, and at least two years of experience in disease intervention or a related field.   1. Identify and track individuals diagnosed with communicable diseases in the state of Texas.
  2. Conduct investigations and interviews to gather information on the spread of communicable diseases and potential exposure risks.
  3. Provide education and resources to individuals diagnosed with communicable diseases to help them manage their conditions and prevent further transmission.
  4. Collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations to develop and implement strategies for disease prevention and control.
  5. Maintain accurate and confidential records of disease cases and their associated contacts.
  6. Monitor and analyze disease data to identify trends and potential outbreaks.
  7. Develop and implement protocols and procedures for disease intervention and control.
  8. Participate in training and educational activities to stay informed about current trends and best practices in disease intervention.
  9. Communicate effectively with individuals diagnosed with communicable diseases, their contacts, and other stakeholders to provide support and address concerns.
  10. Participate in emergency preparedness and response efforts related to communicable diseases.
  11. Adhere to all state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to disease intervention and control.
  12. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  13. Collaborate with other members of the public health team to promote overall health and well-being in the community.
  14. Stay up-to-date on all relevant policies and procedures related to disease intervention and control.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve disease intervention strategies to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Infectious Diseases And Public Health: A Disease Intervention Specialist Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Infectious Diseases And Their Transmission Methods, As Well As Knowledge Of Public Health Practices And Protocols.

  • Experience In Disease Investigation And Control: Candidates Should Have Experience Conducting Disease Investigations, Including Contact Tracing And Outbreak Response, And Implementing Control Measures To Prevent Further Spread Of Disease.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Disease Intervention Specialist, Effective Communication With Individuals, Healthcare Providers, And Community Partners Is Essential. This Includes The Ability To Communicate Sensitive Information With Tact And Confidentiality.

  • Attention To Detail And Data Analysis Skills: Disease Intervention Specialists Must Be Detail-Oriented And Able To Accurately Collect, Analyze, And Interpret Data Related To Disease Surveillance And Monitoring.

  • Education And Training: Most Positions Require A Bachelor's Degree In Public Health, Epidemiology, Or A Related Field. Additional Training And Certifications In Disease Investigation And Control May Also Be Required Or Preferred.
