- Respond to emergency calls: Quickly and effectively respond to emergency calls from the public, law enforcement, and other agencies.
- Dispatch appropriate resources: Utilize knowledge and training to dispatch the appropriate resources, such as police, fire, or medical, to emergency situations.
- Maintain composure under pressure: Remain calm and composed while handling high-stress situations and making critical decisions.
- Provide assistance and support: Offer assistance and support to callers in emergency situations, such as providing first aid instructions or calming distressed individuals.
- Follow established protocols: Adhere to established protocols and procedures for handling emergency calls and dispatching resources.
- Accurately document information: Document all pertinent information from emergency calls in an accurate and organized manner.

- Collaborate with team members: Work collaboratively with other members of the dispatch team to effectively handle emergency situations.
- Stay up-to-date on training and certifications: Participate in ongoing training and maintain necessary certifications to ensure proficiency in emergency dispatch procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information from emergency calls.
- Provide exceptional customer service: Display excellent customer service skills when interacting with callers and emergency responders.
- Remain available for shift work: Be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage for emergency calls.
- Follow departmental policies and procedures: Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
High School Diploma Or Ged: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Certified Emergency Dispatcher Job At State Of Utah Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates Basic Literacy And Communication Skills Necessary For The Job.
Emergency Dispatch Certification: Candidates Must Hold A Valid Certification From The National Emergency Number Association (Nena) Or The Association Of Public-Safety Communications Officials (Apco). This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The Standards For Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required For Emergency Dispatching.
Previous Dispatching Experience: Candidates Should Have At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience In Emergency Dispatching. This Experience Demonstrates The Candidate's Familiarity With Emergency Protocols, Equipment, And Procedures.
