
Corrections Officer

- Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors within the correctional facility.
- Monitor and supervise inmates' activities, behavior, and movements.
- Conduct security checks and inspections of the facility and inmates' belongings.
- Enforce rules and regulations to maintain order and discipline within the facility.
- Respond to emergencies and effectively handle high-pressure situations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of inmates' activities and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Provide support and assistance to inmates as needed.
- Conduct searches for contraband and prohibited items.
- Monitor and control inmate movement within the facility.
- Conduct thorough searches of inmates, visitors, and staff when necessary.
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility.
- Conduct headcounts and maintain accurate inmate counts.
- Follow all departmental policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in training and development programs.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
- Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
- Report any security breaches or suspicious activity.
- Be prepared to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Minimum Education Requirement: A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For The Position Of Corrections Officer At State Of Virginia.
Physical Fitness: Candidates Must Pass A Physical Fitness Test, Which Includes A Running, Sit-Ups, Push-Ups, And Other Physical Activities, To Ensure They Are Physically Fit For The Job.
Background Check: Candidates Must Undergo A Thorough Background Check, Including Criminal History, Credit History, And Employment History, To Ensure They Have A Clean Record And Are Suitable For Working In A Correctional Facility.
Completion Of Training Program: Candidates Must Complete A State-Approved Training Program For Corrections Officers, Which Includes Classroom Instruction And Practical Training, Before They Can Be Hired For The Job.
Good Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Corrections Officers Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Inmates, Colleagues, And Other Law Enforcement Agencies.
